The Death Ship | A chamber opera by sirene Opera Theater

Chamber opera in two acts based on the novel by B. Traven. Gale, the hero of The Ship of the Dead, loses his papers and unexpectedly finds himself among those stripped of all rights. Unable to remain on land without papers or a residence permit, the forms of recognition granted by the international community, his only option is to flee to the sea.

The Ghost That Never Returns (Привидение, которое не возвращается) | A silent film by Abram Room | SU 1930

​Every prisoner is granted one day of freedom, although none of them has ever returned alive. An agent escorts the prisoners on day release, under orders to kill them during a staged attempt to escape. Aware of the danger, Real agrees to take his day off—a final chance to see his beloved wife.

Bed and Sofa (Третья Мещанская) | A silent film by Abram Room | SU 1927

What begins as a favor for a friend searching for an apartment leads Volodia into a turbulent love triangle with the young married couple, Lyuda and Kolia—an allusion to avant-garde poet Mayakovsky’s ménage à trois with Lila Brik and her husband.

Aelita | A silent film by Yakov Protazanov | SU 1924

Adapted from Alexei Tolstoy’s novella. A radio station, led by the protagonist Loss, receives a mysterious message: “Anta Odeli Uta.” Mocked by the military and his colleagues, Loss is certain it must be a message from Mars.

Silent Witnesses (Немые свидетели) | A silent film by Ewgenij Bauer | RU 1914

A maid who is being courted by the son of the house discovers that his fiancée has a lover. When the son refuses to jeopardize his wedding, she tries to drive away the fiancée’s lover out of affection for him, refusing hush money even though it means remaining a maid.
