Shortly before he is awarded the first-ever Arnold Schönberg Prize of the City of Vienna on November 27, 2024 in the festival hall of Vienna City Hall, Peter Jakober is presenting a special world premiere at Wien Modern.

«Dunkeln explores the boundaries between visual and auditory perception and between human and machine sound production. Man with his organic unpredictability meets the machine with its mechanical perfection. In the increasingly dense interplay of live interpreted music and previously recorded sound material from the piano, it is no longer possible to clearly identify the cause of the sound. A situation of acousmatic listening is increasingly created in which the means of producing the sound can no longer be precisely defined. This process is reinforced by the function of a bedside lamp on the piano, which is the only light source that creates darkness in the switched-off phases, in which the pianist continues to interpret from memory.
