Arnold Schönberg, one of the great figures in music history, still appears to many today, long after his death, as "elitist" and "inaccessible". Schönberg himself wanted nothing more than "that people [...] know and whistle along to my melodies". We followed up on this sentence. We travelled the streets of Vienna with a piano and a camera; we tested Schönberg's optimistic wish in important or peripheral, iconic, cliché-laden places. We came up with an open and inviting "Divan Lounge" as a whistling and playing area and installed this equipment at the flea market in Mariahilf, on Columbusplatz in Favoriten, in the Schönbrunn Palace Park, in the Donauzentrum and at the COMIX fair in METAStadt. There we initially allowed, tried out, experienced and filmed more or less everything - and at some point we brought Arnold Schönberg's music into the room. We drank apple juice and schnapps together; we talked, played, danced - and we spent a lot of time doing it. Schönberg was often just an excuse to put on a performance about communication and musicality and to reflect on the place of music in our rather tested, fragmented society.
