The Trio Gabbeh is already known for its unconventional approach and interpretations of the genre concept of world music.
With diversity and originality, the unusual line-up with the two Iranian musicians of singer Golnar Shahyar and clarinettist Mona Matbou Riahi as well as double bassist Manu Mayr presents musical traditions.

Ganz anders geht das Trio Gabbeh an das Folkloristische heran. Kontrabassist Manu Mayr, eines der großen Talente der heimischen Jazzszene, verblüfft immer wieder mit Vielfalt und Originalität. Seit fünf Jahren, wie er im freiStil-Interview erzählte, arbeitet er in Gabbeh mit zwei iranischen Musikerinnen, der Sängerin Golnar Shahyar und der Klarinettistin Mona Matbou Riahi. In diesem west-östlichen Dialog, in dem Shahyar so leidenschaftlich wie virtuos den Verlauf eines Lebens auf Farsi singend inszeniert, treffen Melancholie auf kammermusikalische Strenge, Ekstase auf Schwerelosigkeit, Songs, die zu Herzen gehen, auf den archaischen Blues Cry - heftig umjubelter Auftritt.

Gabbeh's singing in particular marks a specific feature in the REAKTOR programme. The long reverberation of the Great Hall poses special challenges to intelligibility, while at the same time it lends the voice extraordinary volume. The basilica architecture of the Great Hall is not only architecturally reminiscent of Renaissance churches, but also lends spherical sound to long tones in particular, which could be a congenial complement to Gabbeh's sound.
