The composers of the evening come from these cities. Places where there is hardly any silence, cities that never sleep, that never come to rest, cities with a tireless flow of back and forth, of always moving on, always searching, always discovering, always being driven. Cities of noise, of rapid pulse. Walking, buying, getting up, looking, searching, drinking, walking on, checking your watch again and again, listening without listening, and buying again, walking on, being amazed, getting out, hurrying, hurrying, hurrying... And suddenly finding a side street that leads to a garden or a temple, where suddenly only peace, beauty and silence reign. And so you look at everything differently. Everything is alive, every little thing, every leaf, every drop, every stone is alive. In every object there is a deity, a kami (Japanese for spirit or god). And so the world is suddenly magical, like in a dream.
