An operoid. A siren production in coproduction with REAKTOR
in collaboration with Wien Modern, PHACE and the Serapions Ensemble
Dolls have been the fascinating and ghostly companions of humans since the beginning of culture. They may have different purposes, but they all serve their creators as silent companions, gods and slaves, thereby betraying three great dreams of humanity: creative power, perfection, immortality. Not only since the legend of the sculptor Pygmalion and his statue brought to life have puppet creators dreamed of breathing real life into the lifeless imitations of humans. With mechanics, electronics and huge amounts of data, this goal seems to be achieved soon. In the dark, however, a scarecrow and a little imagination are still enough to give the material a spirit.
The music by Christof Dienz for eleven musicians from the PHACE ensemble, Anna Hauf as a wordless voice and the automatic drummer by Jakob Scheid reflects the strangeness in the similarity. Kristine Tornquist and the eight actors of the Serapions Ensemble illuminate the mysterious relationship between people and their puppets in a silent sequence of scenes.
